Another hibiscus question. . . now that I know how to propagate. What the HECK is a hardy hibiscus and tropical? I did not know we had different classifications. Sooo what is the difference????
The tropical varieties must be growin in containers and overwintered indoors. These plants will not tolerate more than a night or two of light freezes. Even one hard freeze (below 25) could kill the plant. The hardy varieties don't need any special treatment and are hardy to Zone 5.
If the hibiscus has glossy, deep green leaves and 3-6" flowers of red, pink, orange, peach, yellow, or salmon, it is probably a TROPICAL hibiscus. Another way to check is if the blooms are double flowered, then you probably have a TROPICAL hibiscus. Hardy hibiscus do not come in these colors or in doubles! If the hibiscus has dull, medium green heart-shaped leaves, dinner plate sized white, pink or red flowers with HUGE, bomb shaped buds (2-4" in length!), it is a perennial, hardy hibiscus.

My hibiscus shrubs are 8 yrs old. They grew at normal rate, until the budding cycle, the leaves around the buds are curling up. No mold or mites but I did spray them with mild soapy water. Also gave them some Miracle Gro. I read that potassium is best for them. Any help would be appreciated.

The plant is in afternoon sun in a pot. What am I doing wrong, and can I save the plant?
It may have a fungus. Trim away any yellow growth and then treat the plant with a fungicide. Also, make sure that it gets enough water (since it's potted and in the sun) but not too much. If the soil feels dry about an inch or so down, give it water. Otherwise, let it be. If the yellow leaves continue, this article will have other suggestions:
