My hibiscus seems to be in shock and dying from the use of electric hedgeclippers by the lawn care service last year. Can I save it?

My Hibiscus plant has quit blooming. The buds appear and then fall off.
Sometimes this occurs when a plant is being overwatered or has a nutritional imbalance. Are the lower leaves yellowing? Is the plant in a pot, and could it be root bound? These are some questions to consider.

I just bought my first Hibiscus plant at Home Depot and replanted it in a fairly large planter. I live in Illinois so I wasn't too sure if it would survive an "in ground" ordeal. While the plant took off and put out a lot of leaves and buds, none of the buds seems to blossom and the ones that blossom do not fully open up and fall off the plant within hours. Do I need to prune the plant down? I wasn't sure of the risks involved with pruning during the middle of it's peak growth. Please help. Regards, Bob..
