my bird of paradise is 10 feet tall and it has never flowered, Do they flower? Or just the smaller ones?
This could be due to the plant being too young, or possibly not enough light. Here is an article that will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/bop/bird-of-paradise-blooms.htm
Our plant is doing very well, blooms, lots of leaves but has a very narrow trunk. Is something wrong? It looks like the trunk will bend in half
It is common that it needs to have soil added to top it off. This can help, or you can try adding potassium silicate, which you can find at most garden shop, or online. This can help strengthen up the stem drastically. Here is a link to more information on the plant:
Hi, We live in Northern NSW on acreage and I am trying to establish a rainforest garden for my husband and a native area with grevilleas etc for the native birds and animals. I also have 2 cats and a dog who love to spend time in the garden with me but when I go into the house so do they. They are not a threat to the native birds or wallabies they just sit and watch them by my side. Which is good. My problem is I have just been researching Palms and found out that the bird of Paradise, especially the large white and purple flower version called Strelitzia Nicolai is toxic to my cats and dogs. Plus Cycads. I have about an acre at least to cover as a rainforest and am bow worried about buying any more plants until I have thorough;y checked them out for safety. I believe all parts of some plants, roots leaves flowers and berries plus sap can be posionous to them. Can you advise which plants to avoid planting. Plus I don't want to attract the bats that are on the other side of the river. I will be doing an organic fruit orchard and veggie garden next after the rainforest is on its way. Many thanks. Any advice greatly appreciated or links. Regards Claire and Robert

Hello! I bought this birds of paradise two months ago and live in Los Angeles. My plants get morning/early afternoon sun (7am - 2pm). As you can see, this one is not doing so well. Already had to cut off three dead leaves and purchased a soil moister meter to monitor watering. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
This appears to be a pH related issue. Apply a few handfuls of dolomitic lime to the soil, and apply a little wettable sulfur as well to further condition your soil.
The soil should remain slightly moist, with short periods of dry in between. You do not want to let them get over-dry, or watered too much.

Hi I have a bird of paradice plant I've had it about a year but it seams to only have three leaves on it and no flowers is this normal as i keep it in the house, I keep it moist and fertilize it regularly
It may not be getting enough light. See if you can increase the light it receives by placing it outside during the warm season, placing it in a brighter window, or providing more artificial light.
I cut dead flower off plus curling leaves that look nearly dead. I END UP WITH MANY DEAD STEMS.
This could be a pH issue, or a fungal issue. To correct both, and add a little sulfur back into the soil I would recommend dolomitic lime and wettable sulfur. When is the best time to transplant Mexican bird of paradise seedlings?
You will want to transplant these when the temperature is warm. Late spring or early summer is best. Here is a link for more information on the care of these plants: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/bop/bird-of-paradise-an-exotic-flower-like-none-other.htm
