Why is my Mexican Bird of Paradise not flowering. The blooms are drying out before blooming.
The plant is probably lacking proper nutrients or water if buds are drying out before producing flowers. They are many "bloom boosting" fertilizers on the market. Basically any fertilizer high in phosphorus promotes blooms so look for a fertilizer with a higher middle number in the NPK ratio. And avoid anything with too much nitrogen

Some of my leaves are splitting...is this a normal condition?...Florida
Leaf splitting can be a normal event, as this can help a plant in high winds.

we are fairly new to az. (2 1/2 yrs) and have 4 large Mexican bird of paradise plants. they look healthy enough, growing, etc....get fertilizer too. none of them ever bloom with those orange blooms. some are in a sunny area...others in shady area. so, we see them growing everywhere along roadsides, blooming like crazy. help us out PLEASE. THANK YOU
Bird of paradise do not need to be watered or fertilized. I have 6 on my property in az also. Just let them go on their own. Take a hedge trimmer to them them back. I do mine every month and have had 7 times has new flowers last year
First, I live in the Phoenix Arizona area. Bought a Bird of Paradise 3 years ago. Planted in my back yard where the only things that get occasional shade is in morning or at dusk. Dug up within 6 weeks and planted in front behind a low palm. Gets 1 hour of sun / day. WHERE can I plant in order to get blooms?
You will need to plant in a full sun location, full sun is 6 plus hours of sunlight.
What to do when the plant has finshed flowering [the flower stems cut or leave?]

The leaves on my BOP are turning brown and dying. The plants continue to grow new leaves but about a week later they will start turning brown too. The brown spots are dry, doesn't feel sticky at all. I have inspected the plants multiple times but haven't seen any insects. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong? Thanks!
Make sure they are adequately watering. If these are new plantings they will need regular irrigation to develop a deep tap root.
Bird of Paradise do need full sunlight to bloom, but in warm climates direct sun can also scorch the plants.
Mulch with 3 to 4 inches of good mulch to help with moisture levels.
Excess insecticide treatment can also burn the leaves.
