    The most important aspect of control of azalea gall is to keep the area around the plant very clean and tidy, and to remove the infected parts as soon as they appear, as you are already doing. Make sure any infected parts and also any leaves that fall from the azaleas are removed and disposed of in a secure container.

    Most Azaleas are hardy in zones 5-8.
    You should be able to safely leave your pots outdoors in your growing zone.

    This could be caused by the boytritis virus or is could be due to Thrips.
    Avoid overhead watering of your plant.

    You can trim back your azaleas now, but they likely won't produce any flowers next year because you will be removing the flower buds. It won't kill them though.
