I have had my Amaryills plants for 7 years. They are 2 1/2 ft. tall and bloom 2x a year. Would it hurt them if I cut the leaves back to the bulbs when we move out of state? We are moving from MI to FL.
Those strap-like leaves are collecting energy for next year's bloom. Let them turn yellow before you cut.
Instructions for deadheading amaryllis. Do you cut off the flower or cut the whole stem off?
Once the flowers have faded, you can trim the entire stem back to the bulb with sharp scissors.
My amaryllis has put out 4 huge leaves, but no flower stalk. What's up with this? It has been several weeks since the leaves appeared. This is a very old bulb that did flower beautifully last year.

How to use eggshells on established amaryllis bulbs?

My amarylis bulb sent up flower shoots and leaves when I brought it back into the light. All the new growth has turned red and have died. I only water when the soil feels dry and the bulb is in sunlight on a window sill. I need help!
I would try moving it to somewhere with less direct light, at least until the leaves have grown a bit. It sounds like the leaves grew some in darkness and became sunscalded when placed in direct light. You can kind of think of it as a sunburn for plants. If the leaves are not use to the light, they will get scalded when placed in light. In the future, just gradually move it into direct light so the leaves can get use to going from the dark to the full light.
Can I use a sharp knife to cut the pup from adult plant and plant it?
Yes, as long as you make sure some roots come away with the pup.
I received a 5" x 9" pot with 3 amaryllis bulbs in early January. I followed directions carefully about watering and light. As of today, 4-22, it has many healthy, tall, dark green leaves but no stems. Am I being impatient about getting stems and blossoms - or do I need to do something besides just letting it be? Should I repot it, each in an individual pot or plant the bulbs outside in my garden?
Amaryllis bulbs are typically shipped with a bud or two ready to grow so that you get a bloom almost immediately. But sometimes the grower mistakenly packs a bulb that is not budding or the bud simply gets damaged in shipping and does not grow. You can keep them for the year and they will bloom in the spring.
