Q.Pruning a Gardenia

Can you prune a gardenia now, and can you cut the limbs and make a sprout where it will come up at another place? We live in Newnan, GA. and the shrub has become really bushy.

You can prune now, but you will reduce the number of blooms you get on the plant in the coming year. It is recommended that you wait until after it blooms to prune so that you do not lose the flowers.
